Scabies (Mites)
Symptoms
- Small, raised, red bumps or blisters on the skin
- Severe itching
- Men: webs of the fingers, wrists, elbows, underarms, belt line, thighs, and genitalia
- Women: nipples, abdomen, and the buttock
Transmission
- Skin-to-skin contact with infected area
- Infested sheets, towels, and clothing
Treatment
- Cured with creams, lotions or shampoos
- Most can be bought at a drugstore
- Some require a prescription
- Bedding, clothing, and towels should be washed in hot water
- Combs and brushes should be soaked in hot water
