In the United States, individuals younger than 25 have the highest rate of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's), also commonly called Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's). Many STD's are curable but can cause permanent damage to your body if not treated early. Other STD's, such as Herpes and HPV, are not curable and stay in your body for life. About 50% of men and 75% of women that are infected with Chlamydia or Gonorrhea have mild or no symptoms. Less than half of adults ages 18 to 44 have gotten tested for an STD other than HIV/AIDS. Without symptoms, a person does not think that he/she is infected and does not get tested; this not only spreads the infection to others, but causes damage to their own body. For this reason it is very important that if you are sexually active you get tested regularly to catch infections early and prevent passing it to others. A major problem for teens is not knowing the facts about STD's and how you can protect yourself. Below you will find information on transmission, symptoms, and treatment of many STD's. Make sure you share it with your friends that might not know this. List of STDs |
